Engaged by project managers Ferrovia, IDA was commissioned to develop the industrial design vision for Hitachi’s bid for the Western Sydney Airport Line metro. IDAs scope included interior layouts to optimise passenger capacity, DSPAT compliance and amenities provided for passengers embarking on international travel. The interior and exterior styling took inspiration from the Western Sydney natural environment with subtle queues reflecting mountain ridges and the bordering inland waterways. The train's sleek exterior features dynamic lines and integrated LED lighting, symbolising the speed and connectivity of the new aerotropolis. Inside, the design prioritised functionality, accessibility and passenger comfort with spacious layouts complemented by ambient lighting and digital displays for a travel experience befitting Sydney’s newest international airport.
